Abstract |
Eriophyoid mites (Acari: Acariformes: Eriophyoidea) are a big group of plant feeder mites with high host-plant specificity. In order to investigate the eriophyoid fauna of the tribes Acerini Amrine & Stasney, 1994 (Eriophyoidea: Eriophyidae: Eriophyinae) and Phyllocoptini Nalepa, 1892 (Eriophyoidea: Eriophyidae: Phyllocoptinae) in Maragheh County, sampling was carried out on the dominant plants in this region during the summers 2022 and 2023. Eriophyid mites were recovered from the plant material using a modified washing method (Lotfollahi & Masoudi-Rad, 2024) and preserved in vials of Oudemans' fluid (Walter & Krantz, 2009). The collected specimens were slide mounted according to Lotfollahi & Masoudi-Rad (2024). Morphological measurements and identification were performed using an Olympus BX53 Phase-contrast microscope. During this study, two genera and three species were identified from the Tribe Acerini: Aceria lactulignae Honarmand & Lotfollahi, 2024 from Salvia officinalis L.; Aceria xeranthemis Lotfollahi, Haddad, khanjani, Moghaddam & de Lillo, 2013 from Xeranthemum longippaposum L. and Xeranthemum squarrosum L.; Paraphytoptus sp. nov. from Cichorium intybus L. Two genera and three species were identified from the Tribe Phyllocoptini: Phyllocoptes abaenus Keifer, 1940 from Prunus armeniaca L. and Rosa damascene mill L., and ocassionally from Salvia officinalis L.; Calepitrimerus achilleae Roivainen, 1950 from Achillea millefolium L.; Calepitrimerus baileyi Keifer, 1938 from Prunus sp., Prunus avium (L.) L. and Malus domestica (F), and ocassionally from Convolvulus arvensis L., Melilotus officinalis (L.) Pall., Brassica rapa L. and Atraphaxis spinose L. Among them Paraphytoptus sp. nov. was new to the world and was vagrant and no apparent symptom was observed on its host plant. Genus Paraphytoptus Nalepa, 1896 was new to East Azerbaijan province fauna and Calepitrimerus achilleae was recorded for the first time from Iran. |
