Abstract |
The superfamily Trombidioidea Leach, 1815 comprises 11 families worldwide, five of which include 22 genera, and 32 species (including larvae and postlarvae) identified from Iran, among them 27 species described based on larval stages. Morphologically, Trombidioidea larvae possess distinctive features such as two or more dorsal scuta, a pair of sensilla on the anterior scutum, and contiguous coxae I and II. Additional defining characteristics include the presence of an clapared`s organ and anus. From 2021-2024, samples were collected from various regions in Sistan and Baluchestan province to identify terrestrial Parasitengona mites. Multiple methods were used to collect the larvae, including direct collection from the host, sweping, Berlese-Tollgren funnels, pitfall traps, tubular traps, and light traps. The mites were cleared in lactophenol and mounted on glass microscope slides using Hoyer’s medium. A total of 13 species were collected. Among them, four species are new to science (marked with *), one species is newly reported for the fauna of Iran (marked with **) and one genus is first recorded from the Palaearctic region (marked with ***). The list of species by subfamilies as follow: Family Microtrombidiidae Thor, 1935, Subfamily Eutrombidiinae Thor, 1935, Eutrombidium sp.* (undescribed); Hexathrombium sp.* (undescribed); Subfamily Microtrombidiinae Thor, 1935; Atractothrombium sp. , Trichotrombidium muscarum (Riley, 1878); Family Microtrombidiidae incertae sedis, Empitrombium prasadi Saberi-Riseh and Saboori, 2020; Family Trombidiidae Leach, 1815, Subfamily Allothrombiinae Thor, 1935; Allothrombium ovatum** Zhang and Xin, 1992, A. fuliginosum (Hermann, 1804), A. triticium Zhang, 1995; Subfamily Trombidiinae Leach, 1815, Trombidium southcotti Zhang and Saboori, 1996; Family Trombellidae Thor, 1935, Subfamily Trombellinae Thor, 1935: Nothrotrombidium birjandensis Noei, 2017; Family Neothrombiidae Feider, 1959, Birjandtrombella farniae Noei, 2020; Family Chyzeriidae Womersley, 1954, Subfamily Pteridopinae Southcott, 1987, Perumaropta*** sibsuranensis*; Pteridopus sp.* (undescribed). |
