Abstract |
The Mesostigmata is a large, cosmopolitan assemblage of parasitiform mites that embrace an unusually diverse variety of lifestyles and habitats. The majority of species are free-living predators, while many others are parasites or symbionts of mammals, birds, reptiles, or arthropods, but are most abundant and diverse in the soil. To identify mesostigmatic mites, sampling was conducted from 2021 to 2022 in various locations within the citrus orchards of Babolsar County, Mazandaran Province, Iran. Collected specimens were extracted using the Berlese-Tullgren funnel and put into AGA solution. Mites were cleared in Lactic Asid and Nessbit’s fluids and then microscopic slides were mounted in Hoyer’s medium. During this study, a total number of 27 species belonging to 26 genera and 17 families were recorded including new species from the genus Pogonolaelaps Nemati & Gwiazdowicz, 2016 which will be described in the future. The identified species are as follows: Ascidae: Arctoseius cetratus (Sellnick, 1940); Ameroseiidae: Ameroseius sp.; Blattisociidae Lasioseius sugawarai Ehara, 1964; Laelapidae: Cosmolaelaps sp.; Euandrolaelaps karawaiewi (Berlese, 1903); Gaeolaelaps aculeifer (Canestrini, 1884), G. queenslandicus (Womresley, 1956); Gymnolaelaps myrmecophilus (Berlese, 1892); Ololaelaps sp.; Pogonolaelaps sp. nov.; Macrochelidae: Macrocheles glaber (Müller, 1860); Ologamasidae Gamasiphis pulchellus (Berlese, 1887), Sessiluncus sp.; Pachylaelapidae: Olopachys sp., Pachylaelaps pectinifer (G. Canestrini, 1881); Parasitidae: Pergamasus sp.; Parholaspididae: Holaspina alstoni (Evans, 1956); Podocinidae: Podocinum pacificum (Berlese, 1895); Polyaspididae: Polyaspis sp.; Pseudolaelapidae: Pseudolaelaps doderoi (Berlese, 1910); Rhodacaridae Rhodacarellus iraniensis Castilho, Jalaeian & Moraes, 2012; Multidentorhodacarus sp.; Trematuridae: Nenteria bastanii Kazemi & Abolghasemi, 2016; Uropodidae: Discourella modesta (Leonardi, 1899); Uropoda orbicularis (Müller, 1776); Veigaiidae: Veigaia planicola Berlese, 1882; Zerconidae: Zercon sp. |
